Preface

Clinical Immunology has gained prominence in recent years and the need to foster growth and development in Immunology is now more imminent than ever. Areas of interest range from primary and secondary immunodeficiencies to heightened immune responses, such as autoimmunity, allergy and autoinflammatory diseases. Close collaboration between, but not exhaustive of, adult and paediatric immunologists, rheumatologists, immunology pathologists, microbiologists, respirologists, oncologists and transplant specialists are needed to further propagate each respective specialty.

The purpose of the Immunology SIG is to create a platform to share research ideas, to increase collaboration between specialties and to provide resources for training and further education and grounds to establish strong networking opportunities. In the very short time since establishment in Hong Kong, we have organized several training and educational opportunities aimed to promote awareness in this new specialty. In the 2020 International Conference of Chinese Rheumatologists, we invited Prof. Siobhan Burns from the UK to give an enlightening lecture on innate and adaptive immunity in rheumatic diseases. In the same year, we organized the first Training for Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology Nurse (TRAIN) Programme to educate and train Immunology and Rheumatology nurses on topics and skills such as allergy tests, anaphylaxis and use of subcutaneous immunoglobulin. Most recently, we established the Hong Kong Drug Allergy Delabelling Initiative (HK-DADI) to promote penicillin allergy testing among non-allergists including rheumatologists across multiple centres. Training provision and educational workshops will be carried out in the very near future.
